Journal History

Before this journal was published, the Reformed Center for Religion and Society (RCRS) had published studies in the form of essays, books, and popular science articles. Some of the writings of RCRS researchers were published by external and internal publishers managed by RCRS.

In its development, RCRS considers the needs of the academic world, especially those related to religion and society. In 2014, RCRS gave birth to a journal that accommodates research results that explore the role of religion and belief in the lives of diverse Indonesian society.

Societas Dei was finally chosen as the journal's name because it embodies RCRS's vision and mission. Societas and Dei are rooted in Latin, meaning society and God, respectively. The combination of these two words is expected to underlie the spirit of each published article so that it can build and organize an ecosystem of life that reflects the government of God, namely the presence of justice, truth, peace, welfare, prosperity, goodness, and beauty.

Since its establishment in 2014, the Societas Dei has regularly published the journal twice a year, in April and October. In 2014, the journal got p-ISSN No. 2407-0556, and in 2018, the journal got e-ISSN No. 2599-3267. In 2019, the Societas Dei: Journal of Religion and Society was accredited nationally (Sinta Score = S4 since Vol 4 No 2 2017) by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia based on SK Dirjen Penguatan Riset dan Pengembangan, Kemenristek Dikti No. 30/E/KPT/2019. Since Volume 7 Number 2 of 2020, the publisher has updated the website's appearance, including the Copyright Transfer Agreement, Manuscript Template, Review Process, the article layout, and several editorial policies. Societas Dei: Jurnal Agama dan Masyarakat got accreditation by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Republic of Indonesia, Number 105/E/KPT/2022 since Vol. 8 No. 2 Tahun 2021 to Vol. 13 No.1 Tahun 2026 (SINTA 3).
