Melampaui Cerita-Cerita Kematian di Kalangan Abangan

Penelitian ini mengkaji konstruksi mitos kematian melalui konsep-konsep eskatologis dalam kepercayaan religius komunitas Abangan Jawa, sebuah kelompok subkultural yang memiliki orientasi keagamaan sinkretik yang berakar pada tradisi Kejawen. Permasalahan utama yang diangkat adalah kurangnya perhatian akademik terhadap narasi eskatologis yang bersifat lokal. Padahal, narasi tersebut membentuk penafsiran alternatif mengenai kematian yang kerap terpinggirkan oleh paradigma keagamaan yang dominan. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan pendekatan studi kasus, penelitian ini berpijak pada kerangka teori eskatologi dan religiositas untuk menganalisis cara komunitas Abangan membentuk makna atas kematian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kematian tidak semata-mata dipahami sebagai akhir kehidupan yang bersifat personal atau moral, melainkan dimaknai sebagai hasil dari dinamika sosial-keagamaan yang lebih luas, kondisi lingkungan, serta interaksi dengan entitas nonfisik. Penafsiran-penafsiran ini merepresentasikan suatu epistemologi yang khas dan menantang wacana teologis normatif sekaligus menegaskan validitas pandangan spiritual lokal. Studi ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap kajian eskatologi dengan menyoroti kekayaan interpretatif dalam sistem kepercayaan lokal serta mengkritik marginalisasi pengetahuan religius dalam diskursus akademik dan teologis yang lebih luas.
